Orlando one of winter's hottest housing markets

Among the 50 largest U.S. markets, the top five hottest single-family markets this winter were Seattle, Fort Lauderdale, Orlando, Portland and Las Vegas, new data from Ten-X shows. These markets had the best combination of rising home prices, favorable affordability and strong housing demand, combined with strong economic and demographic conditions that point to future demand. Ten-X noted that Seattle and Portland continue to enjoy robust economic and demographic growth driven by the tech sector, with housing fundamentals in these markets now eclipsing pre-recession peaks. Fort Lauderdale and Orlando represent the strength seen throughout most Florida markets following their acute recessionary decline. Florida and Las Vegas, markets that had previously been poster children for the housing bust, are now boosted by revitalized local economies and population growth driving market demand. This weekend, I had the pleasure of attending the Grand Opening of the Greensteins' Great Escape Lakeside Retreat. A 12 bedroom / 10  1/2  bath home, situated on ten acres of glorious lakefront property, the Escape is not only a beautiful home of first class materials, but it is also a fantasy wonderland for children of all ages!  Each room is done up in a different interactive GAME theme. For example, there is a Monopoly Room, a War Room, a Laser maze room (including a shower that seemingly emits glow-green water!), an 80s themed PacMan room, a karaoke bar and so much more. There is literally something for everyone. Andrew's 700,000 letter Word Search Puzzle invites you to embark on the task of finding at least some of the 70,000 words embedded here - this one is making the Guinness Book of World Records!  The retreat can sleep up to 45 and you will want for nothing while here.       If y...

Year End Pricing UP and Volume Stats UP

The Greater Orlando area finished off 2015 with an overall increase in price of 9% from last year, with each month showing an increase in price -- it never dipped!  For Single Family Homes alone, the increase was 11.45% in price.   The overall number of sales increased by almost 15.5%.   These are strong numbers by any measure.   When I add the increase in sales price from the year prior, it shows an 18.48% increase in price over two-years for all homes (this will be higher for Single Family Homes alone).    Ca-Ching If you'd like an up to date valuation on your property, please reach out to me: dawndeegan@gmail.com or 407-488-8074. Jewel Box Homes, Lake Nona

Laureate Park in Lake Nona will begin to sell 40 Jewel Box Houses as part of its Phase 7 Development.  A Jewel Box Home, a term Frank Lloyd Wright used, has been reemerging over the past few years, as part of the trend for scaled down homes.  Generally less than 2500 sq ft, energy efficient, garage in back, on a small lot are characteristics that can be found in a Jewel Box Home.  They are also built using top grade materials and finishes! And in Lake Nona, they will mostly be 2-story homes. When you think of a Jewel Box home, think of comfort-livability, sustainable materials, long term living - a home that will conform with your potential life style changes. If you'd like more information on the Lake Nona homes, please contact me immediately! Florida #1 in adolescent HIV

So, the data that was front and center but I couldn't find the doc to support it, is this:  Florida is number one in the nation for adolescents living with diagnosed HIV infections; adolescents being between the ages of 13 to 19.  And then, Orlando #8 for overall new HIV infections.  This is completely unacceptable, is it not? ORLANDO / VOTE

I was so impressed that Orlando Mayoral Candidate Paul Paulson actually called me back this morning; immediately, in fact, while I was leaving him a voicemail.  Then, he tried two more times, as I took yet a different call coming in.  Not quite convinced as to who I would be voting for in tomorrow’s election, I took Mr. Paulson up on his publicly made invitation to reach out to him on his cell phone, with any issues or concerns.  And not only am I impressed that he called me back, even without hearing my voicemail, but when I did voice my concern about an issue that virtually goes unnoticed, and under-publicized, he too expressed concern and commented that, “you’re right, not one person has raised that issue.”   The issue being that Orlando has one of the highest HIV infection rates in the nation (#8), and what is being done to correct this, and why isn’t enough light shed on this issue?   As Orlando consistently enjoys the highest tourism ...
